EARLY AFRICAN AMERICANS ON DEER ISLE
Thursday, August 27th @ 2:00 PM we will host the 2nd presentation on Early African Americans on Deer Isle by Deer Isle residents Barbara and Alan Chesney. Their talk will share history of African Americans on the Island dating from 1765, and explore how they arrived here, their significant contributions to the Island, helping us better understand our common history. This is a repeat of the session from July 23rd.

COMMUNITY DAY OPEN HOUSE
On Sunday, September 13th from 1:00-4:00 PM, please come join us at th Historical Society. This is the perfect time to come visit and walk through all of our buildings, maybe for your first time or a repeat visit. Join friends - old and new - and discover your Island "roots" . We have so much fun and have very interesting exhibits. There may be folks talking about their past, their ancesters' past. You could hear some very interesting tales from back years and make your own decision as to what to believe or not. Also, just a reminder - the Archives will not be open on this day; however, come through during our "winter hours" starting on Wednesday, September 23rd from Noon to 3:00 PM. We have a "gold mine" of past information: the many books of Dr. Noyes; most of the different Island newspapers from the late 1800's to current; many scrapbooks, photos, maps, family genealogies, school yearbooks, archival collections from individuals, businesses, organizations, schools, churches, etc.; quilts and clothing from the past; and more. Hope we see you!
